What Happens With Your In-Home Shutter Consultation

Tyler Jorgensen

Before you decide ont what window treatment to get, some companies, like Sunburst, recommend an in-home consultation. By taking samples to your home, we can present how different window treatments would look with your decor. This conversation lets you envision your options and makes you feel satisfied with your decision.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how will showing you different products at your home help you better choose the perfect window treatment? Some companies may have a different agenda for their in-home consultation, but here is what you will expeience during your Sunburst appointment.

Detailing A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Begin by making an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already have a shutter or window treatment in mind, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make a special note to show you a variety of options for your preferred product. We will also show alternatives, so you can know that your room matches your ideal.

During the actual appointment, we’ll sit down and figure out what you are looking for in a window treatment. We’ll cover issues like your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency ideas, and we’ll pay special attention to hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your consultant will also inquire about how the room is used and what ambiance you are trying to acheive. The final target is to complety conceptulaize what your windows will ultimately look like with the treatments installed.

That may require going through different products until we discover the perfect window treatment for your needs. Most clients want to look at a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or finding the perfect stain to coordinate with the room. We’ll also show you all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

After you decide on a treatment, we’ll take the exact measurements of your windows. We will typically measure the windows in every room in your home—even if you only plan to make a purchase for a portion of the house. We get multiple measurements because most of our customers ask to order future shutters or blinds with just a phone call. Finally, we will thoroughly explain the detailed, written quote, so there are no hidden costs on your invoice.

Signs Of A Subpar In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are convinced that Sunburst will perform compentent in-home consultation, there are some actions you should never see from any window treatment company. As they say, the quality of your consultation experience mirrors the quality of the product.

Above all else, your consultant should be careful and professional. The rep should arrive when promised, clean and presentable, and offer to protect your floors with shoe booties. Your consultant should always have product and company literature and pricing details.

In regards to pricing, you should expect a full written quote. Don’t accept a guesstimate, scrawled on a scrap piece of paper or the back of a business card. And never accept a quote if they won’t measure your windows. You want to be able to follow how much you should pay and why. Don’t forget to search for references and online reviews.
