New Window Styles and Oklahoma City Design Trends for 2017

Tyler Jorgensen

This time of year is a great time to revitalize your home design and window treatments with the hottest styles of 2017. From painting your family room, to buying new window treatments or changing out furniture, we have tips on what’s in vogue in 2017 for interior design and window treatment trends in Oklahoma City.

Duskier Hues & Pastels

Both pastels and duskier tones are growing in popularity while clear, bright colors are on the wane. Shades of gray, blue and green are very popular in addition to muted hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many hues on the palette are reminiscent of nature from sky blue to “Greenery”, Pantone’s color of the year. Neutral tones are still found throughout the color spectrum with whites, grays and darker beiges balancing out the other hues.

Painting some of your walls in a neutral shade and then adding in flashes of color with feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings might be one of the simplest methods to revamp the color in your home. Then it’s a breeze to highlight the latest colors in your interior design now and swap the little things out when color trends vary in the future. When considering new window treatments, choose those in neutral tones like Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a wood-like stain. These will blend in easily with any style or color scheme and can stay in place if you switch room colors down the line.

Natural Textures

Natural textures aren’t going anywhere this year. Fibers in vogue include weaved material in rugs or baskets, rustic wood, and twine. We’re seeing these textures showing up in new places such as on headboards, furniture, and conversation pieces. Think of how you can incorporate what you already own and add texture to it such as wrapping a frame in twine or creating artwork out of old wood.

Incorporating texture into your house through window treatments add another degree of interest to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are made using old, knotted wood that was once part of doors or buildings. The wood has unique twists and knots that bring an all-natural feel to your house. Other window treatments that add texture are Ovation® wood shutters or natural woven shades.

Metals

Accessories and hardware that incorporate multiple metals are showing up across Oklahoma City. Wrought iron, brass, and nickel are especially stylish now. You can incorporate metals in your décor by finding industrial, rustic, and/or retro pieces such as stools, chairs, or lamps that are built from metals. Also, don’t hesitate to utilize nickel or brass in your sinks or hardware for a more fashion-forward look.

Sliding barn doors and barn door shutters are a great way to bring in some metals and add an industrial or homespun look to your home. Barn doors are made from solid wood and are available in a wide array of hardware such as rollers, sliding tracks, and pull handles that are made of different metals.
